Brazilian organizers are saying they’re finding it challenging to meet FIFA’s deadline for the Sao Paulo stadium which will host the World Cup opener. Local organizers claim they are “looking for solutions” to speed up construction after an engineer voiced his doubts of not being able to complete the project by the December deadline. FIFA has made it clear that they will not tolerate delays for any of the 12 stadium they will be using in the tournament and they should all be ready by December.
The main concern for the Sao Paulo stadium is the temporary seating required to increase the capacity for the opener in 2014. The stadium will host 6 World Cup matches, one of those being a semifinals match. In other interesting football news leading up to the World Cup, Brazil launched an official instrument in response to the vuvuzelas of the 2010 South Africa World Cup. It is called the caxirola and it is a small, green and yellow percussion instrument that makes sound when shaken.
They are made from recycled plastic due to Brazil’s attempt to provide an eco-friendly World Cup. The instrument has already had some issues, however, when the host team of Bahia were losing to their main rivals, Vitoria. A corner of the field, near a group of Bahia fans, became riddled with the small instruments bringing the game to a halt. One thing is for sure though, with or without those tiny instruments the 2014 FIFA World Cup is one of the most anticipated events of next year.
